How do I cure my PCOS?

It is important to maintain a healthy body weight, a healthy diet that excludes or limits industrial sugars and sweets, plenty of protein and healthy fats (e.g. nuts, avocados). Include regular exercise. Make sure you get enough vitamin D and omega-3s. Focus on stress reduction. Lifestyle improvements and targeted treatment can significantly relieve symptoms. Consult your doctor for any medication changes and see your gynecologist regularly.

Hello, Zalm 90:10 talks about the upper limit of human age (80). Are we not going against the Bible and God when we seek to push the age limit? Please comment. Thank you. Adolf.

This verse traditionally reflects the average human lifespan in the time of ancient Israel, while also reminding us of the impermanence of life. It is not a „hard upper limit“ that people could not cross - rather, it is a practical experience of the time. The Bible in many parts values life as a gift from God, but it also shows that people have a responsibility to care for their bodies and health. The pursuit of a healthy, long life is not against the Bible or God, if it is motivated by wisdom and reverence for the Lord God.Science and medicine can be seen as tools that God has provided for us to care for our bodies, and we should use them wisely. Balance is important - we cannot do anything to maximize our life expectancy if it is at the expense of morality or spiritual values

1) It is true that food and drinks in America are much sweeter than in the Czech Republic. I've never been there, so I'm interested. And alternatively - are there healthy options available in stores? E.g. in baked goods. 2) In terms of water - what about herbal teas? Do they belong in a drinking regime?

Yes, in general, many foods and beverages in the US are significantly sweeter than in the Czech Republic. Drinks like soda or flavoured water often contain more sugar than their Czech equivalents. Healthy options can be found - whole grain baked goods, products without added sugar, organic products. And yes, herbal teas do count towards a healthy drinking regime, as long as they don't contain caffeine or added sugar.Avoid sweetened iced teas or instant teas with sugar, they don't count towards a healthy drinking regime.

How to prevent bloating from fiber from a healthy diet such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes, cereals. I consume this diet, but for higher fiber intake I suffer from bloating. The nutritional therapist recommended me to restrict healthy diet due to bloating. Thank you for your reply. Jana Šlechtová

Bloating with high fibre intake is a common problem and it is certainly not necessary to restrict a healthy diet altogether. There are several strategies to consume fiber without uncomfortable bloating. You can try gradually increasing fiber or dividing foods with fiber evenly into all meals. Watch out for the right ratio of fiber types, proper food preparation. Drink plenty of fluids and watch for specific foods that give you trouble.

Which water is the healthiest? Plastic bottles are not recommended because of the microplastics, and old pipes don't do much good for good water either. Do you recommend any filtration?

The healthiest water is water from a well, if you can draw it. It is also tap water, if drinkable, with a good quality filter stored in glass or stainless steel containers.

Hello, Zalm 90:10 talks about 80 years as the upper limit for the healthiest. Aren't we going the other way if we want to live to 100? Is it true that in the beginning the age of man was 962 years? Please comment. Thank you. Adolf- Romania

Pursuing a healthy life for 90-100 years is not against the Bible if it is motivated by care for the body and health, not by trying to „fool God.“ The Bible emphasizes many times that the body is a gift (1 Corinthians 6:19-20) and we are to take care of it. Yes, the Bible gives the long ages of some of the patriarchs before the flood as several hundred years (e.g. Methuselah 969 years).

«And the LORD said, My spirit shall never rest with man: for he is flesh also: and his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. Genesis 6:3 How do you think we can live to 120 years or more?

This verse traditionally interprets life expectancy as the limit of „normal“ human age after the time of Noah. Modern medicine, healthy diet, exercise, and disease prevention allow people to live well over 100 years, sometimes close to 120, in relatively good health.

I wonder what Ernestine thinks about a pregnant woman's diet. I try to eat good food, nuts, fruits, vegetables, seeds and everything she talked about. I don't always manage to eat well but I try. I take vitamins, quite expensive and good quality. Now my doctor has recommended other vitamins, specifically for pregnancy. Is it necessary for me to eat them, since I already have some vitamins (folic acid, vit.D, iron, magnesium, zinc+copper+salts). Some pregnant women who eat healthy don't take vitamins. So I would be interested in Ernestine's opinion. Thank you

The dietary supplement, vitamin and mineral industry is a huge business. Yet scientific evidence for the benefits of supplementation is lacking. On the contrary, some studies have shown that supplementation with certain vitamins or minerals has been shown to worsen health. The market for these products is poorly controlled, and there is no guarantee that the product you buy actually contains what the manufacturer claims it does - and does not contain other potentially harmful ingredients. There are exceptions; women on a purely plant-based diet should certainly supplement with vitamin B12 and, if deficiency is detected, vitamin D. The same may be true if a deficiency of certain other vitamins or minerals is detected - but only if and when, not across the board (as part of so-called "prevention"). If you eat a balanced, varied, purely plant-based, unrefined diet, you are on the right track.

Opinion on artificial sweeteners. Pancreatic cancer - what effect can genetics have?!

It is advisable to prefer natural sources of sweetness (e.g. fruit). In pancreatic cancer, genetics plays a role in approximately 10 % cases. Other risk factors are smoking, type 2 diabetes, obesity or chronic pancreatitis.

Which dietary supplements are essential for seniors 60+ nowadays

Supplements should be approached individually. I will list a few supplements that are often recommended to seniors. These are vitamin D, vitamin B12, omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium. I remind you, however, that the most appropriate source of vitamins is usually whole, unrefined foods.

Drinking 2 litres of water a day for me, a senior citizen 60+, means going to the toilet once an hour and twice a night. Which is a nuisance for me! What to do?

This is a common problem with seniors. Try to distribute fluids evenly, do not consume caffeine and alcohol, drink smaller sips throughout the day, watch for signs of dehydration. Soups, fruits and vegetables contain water, which is absorbed more slowly.
